2. B. One instance where I did not take personal responsibility is last year when I took a math class. I didn't like the way the teacher taught, didn't think they were a good teacher, wasn't understanding anything I was learning and I gave up. The effects of this were not good, my grade dropped and was a C on the interim, a grade my mom was not happy with, I had the rest of the 9 weeks to pick my grade up, I took responsibility of my learning and brought my grade up before report cards came out.

I am guilty of speaking as a victim. When I get mad I tend to blame things on others. I am going to change though and speak as a creator. Taking responsibility for my actions and staying focused on my education is something I will from now on do.

 CHAPTER 3

  1. The best advice was given by Professor Gonzales. I agree with him when he says learning should be fun. Students tend to get bored easily by teachers that teach in basic ways. Engaging in fun, or interesting activities can help more students get involved in whats happening in class. I know this from experience, I work and learn a lot more whenever the teacher gives us an assignment other than reading from a book. Hands on experiments, field trips, and movies or videos are a big help in learning. For example, many students would learn more in a chemistry class if they did a lab about chemical reactions rather than if they just read and answered questions about it. I think the worst advice came from Professor Buckley. Students being able to choose their own assignments is bad news. A majority of them will choose the easiest or quickest assignments they. Not having a set deadline for an assignment sounds crazy to me because then a student has no structure or rules in school. Being able to choose assignments won't work again because then students won't learn all the information the class has to offer.

Chapter 3.

Journal Entry 9:
1. Fill in three or more of your own desired outcomes for this course and/or this semester.

DESIRED OUTCOMES

  1. Finish all classes this semester with an A+
  2. Learn and remember at least two new strategies for school or life.
  3. Always have a GPA above 3.5

VALUE

  1. An A+ in all my classes will bring my GPA up and help me look better when I apply for college.
  2. Learning new strategies will help me make better choices and succeed even farther in school.
  3. Setting your standards high will make you work harder.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES

  1. Feeling confident
  2. Having fun
  3. Retaining what I learn
  4. Not getting frusterated

VALUE

  1. I want to feel confident in my work and know that I am smart enough to take on work assigned to me.
  2. I want to enjoy the class I take, not getting annoyed when I have an assignment to do.
  3. I want this class to stay with me, I want to remember what I've learned and not forget it, because if I don't retain the information then the class does me no good.
  4. I don't want to get upset over assignments. I want to turn in everything on time so I'm not rushing last minute to get everything done.

My score was an 81. My value score is a 9 out of 10 along with my expectation score. I did not score them 10 out of 10 because I want to do good in college, and I am going to push myself until I do good, but I know I won't do perfect. To keep these scores high, I am going to stay focused on school and keep myself headed in the right directions.

Entry 10:

Journal entry 11.
Sitting down, ready to walk across the long stage I loudly hear my name called. I nervously stand up and walk up to get my High school diploma. They give me my AA certificate and give a quick speech about how I am graduating with my AA degree. I walk to the other side of the stage while the audience applauds and my family shouts and hollers.

 Journal Entry 12:

-I keep everything as organized as possible. All of my school work is put into certain places so that I do not have to worry about it being misplaced or lost. I have a different folder for each class and each folder is labeled for certain things.Being disorganized can cause you to fall behind and make your school life a mess.
-Relaxing is such an important quality to have. Being relaxed about a situation will make it easier to get through it. Being or causing yourself stress over something, only makes it worse. Stress works you up and sooner or later you're more worried about calming down than what it is that you have to do. For example, when you have to take a test, relax, study and do your best and your outcomes will be better than if you were stressed or un-relaxed.

I spent most of my time in the not important, not urgent category. A lot of the 15 events were lazy things. This showed me that I need to do more productive things during the day.

Journal entry 14:
1.Write about the system that you presently use to decide what you will do each day.
When I get home from school, I know my algebra homework needs to be done before my other homework. This is because i know it takes me longer to understand and do my math work than it takes me to do work in other subjects. I try to miss classes as little as possible because I believe absences will help you drastically fall behind.
2. Write about how you could use or adapt the five management tools in the chapter to create a leak proof self management system and improve your outcomes and experiences.
I could use my iPhone calender to schedule and store my events in. I don't necessarily want to use any of the other tools because I like the way I remeber to do things now. I like writing what needs to be done in a note on my phone and setting it as my wallpaper.

CHAPTER 5

 Journal Entry 17:

1. An outer obstacle that stands between me and my success in college is my Algebra 2 Honors class.

2.Someone besides me who could help me overcome this outer obstacle is a tutor.

3. How this person could help me is by helping me understand the lessons that way they don't take up so much of my time.

4. An inner obstacle that stands between ne and my success in college is me being shy.

5. Someone besides me who can help me overcome this inner obstacle is my friends.

6. How this person could help me is by introducing me to more people.

7. The most challenging course I am taking in college this semester is US History to 1877.

8. This course is challenging for me because I can't get myself interested in history topics.

9. Someone besides me who can help me overcome this challenge is a history teacher or student that enjoys history.

10. How this person could help me is by showing me how to engage in history.

2. To overcome these challenges, I could get help from peers that go through or have gone through the same challenges. I could study and work as hard as possible until I understand what I am being taught.

Entry 18:
1.
ME: I am so done with this math class.

IG: Why? What's wrong? (Expansion)

ME: I do not understand any of the stuff we've learned these past few days.

IG:  You seem bothered that you are not getting the material. (Reflection)

ME: I could raise my hand and ask questions but I'm not a fan of that stuff.

IG: What do you mean when you say, "stuff like that?" (Clarification)

ME: I've always been shy.

IG: I see (Silence)

ME: I don't have the nerves to speak up.

IG: Take control of your learning.

2.  From this conversation I learned that I can control my thoughts. I don't have to listen to what my inner guide always says. I can control what is said and the way I think.

Entry 19:
1.Walking through the mall with Kelly and Maggie, I started to get annoyed. No matter what store we went into, we kept running into these three boys that would not leave us alone. Everytime we turned around they were constantly making comments and saying things to us. One of the kids would would not stop talking about how I had a " hot body." We got so fed up with them that we left the mall and decided we would find another day to shop instead.
  2. If the boys would have simply said I was pretty instead of talking about my butt and body I would have felt respected. I believe that commenting on a girls body, especially a girl you do not know, is disrespectful.

Entry 20:
1.
Dear math tutor,
I am in desperate need of help. I am in Algebra 2 honors and it is killing me. I have never been this confused in a class before. Everyday I walk into class with my mind running 100 mph, annoyed, because I didn't understand the homework assigned to us the night before. I have a C right now and I am determined to bring it up to a B before report cards are issued. I was wondering if you have any tutor sessions open. I will take any time, I am free any day of the week. Thanks in advance.
                                                                                                      Brycelyn.
2. I am guilty of blaming my math teacher with my struggle of not being able to understand the material he teaches. I am guilty of leveling a lot though as well. I am usually a very honest person. I speak what's on my mind. I have no problem with expressing my opinion. \

Page 150:

Professor Rogers-  3
Anthony- 4
Sylvia- 2
Donald-  1
Anthony was least responsible for the groups grade. He worked, arranged meet up places, and was determined to get an A. Professor Rogers was more responsible because she gave Anthony irresponsible partners, but she had a good point when she used the Judge analogy to explain to Anthony that it was fair. Like Anthony said, Sylvia was always picking fights, she was more worried about Anthony leading the group than about getting her work done. Donald didn't care about anything in the group, he barely put any effort into the project.

CHAPTER 6

Entry 21:

1. This girl and I were really close, we did everything together. For a while we were inseparable, we hung out all off the time. She started to make bad choices and we started to drift apart. She started partying and drinking a lot and I made the choice of ending the friendship because I didn't want to go down the same road she was on.

2. An area I am off course of is making time to study. Lately I have been pushing off studying for as long as I can. The part of my life that's farthest away from where I want it to be is finishing my algebra 2 honors class with an "A." If I continue to stay off course, my grades could start to go down.

Entry 22:
1. My self defeating behavior pattern is that I don't put up with drama. I think nonsense is a waste of time, and it annoys me more than anything. I got this habit from my mom. She is the same way as I am about people that have drama or annoying attitudes or personalities. If you are rude or annoying, we will not give you the time of day. For example, if someone constantly complains about something they do, but don't try to prevent it, then I will stop associating with them.

2. A self defeating thought I have is speaking my mind. I get annoyed very easily and I tell people how it is. If I don't like something, I will tell you that I don't like it. I don't use this in a rude manner, but I tell people how I feel. I'm not afraid to express my opinion.

Entry 23:
IG: (1) In what area of your life are you off course?
Me: Doing my homework
IG: What do you mean? (expansion)
ME: I always push my my homework off until late at night.
IG:  (2) What self defeating thought patterns of yours may have contributed to this situation?
ME: Well, maybe procrastinating.
IG: (3) Well change your mindset. What different thoughts could you use to get you back on course?
ME: I could remind myself that homework contributes a lot to keeping good grades.
IG: (4) What self defeating emotional pattern of yours may have contributed to this situation?
ME: Me easily getting annoyed
IG: (5)Well, what different emotions would get you back on course?
ME: Being focused and dedicated to finishing my work.
IG: (6)What self defeating behavior patterns of yours could have contributed to this situation?
ME: I waste a lot of time I could be using to do my homework.
IG: (7) What different behaviors could you choose to get back on course of your goal?
ME: Finding a better way to manage my time
IG: (8) What limiting core beliefs of yours may have led you to adopt the self defeating patterns that we have been discussing?
ME: Watching kids not care and still getting good grades.
IG:  (9) What different core belief could you use to get back on course for your goals.
ME:  Surrounding myself with people dedicated to school
IG: (10) As a result of what you learned here, what new behaviors, thoughts, emotions, or core beliefs will you commit too?
ME: I will use more time to get all of my homework done. I will not put it back until I'm finished with it.

CHAPTER 7

Journal Entry 25:
Describe an important course correction you have made in the past.

1. Before in a math class I didn't do my homework because the assignments weren't worth a lot. It killed me on my tests because I didn't know any of the information since I didn't do my homework. I started doing my homework and my test grades increased as well as my grade in the class.

Identify where you are presently of course and offer a plan for making a course correction
2.In a class I am taking right now, I am supposed to read a chapter a week and I skimmed and only found the answers to the questions on my quiz which wasn't a good idea. I had to take a mid term and since I didn't read the chapters I didn't do well on the exam and my grade went down. I started reading like I am supposed to and hoping that I can get my grade up to where it needs to be.

Journal Entry 26:

Write about the most challenging course you are taking this semester
1. This is my first time taking online classes. With high school and college classes together, I am pretty busy with my school work. I am not a big fan of history so my most difficult course right now is my online US History to 1877 class. I am unfamiliar with the online classes and adjusting to them has been weird. I enjoy sitting in a classroom and learning much more than I like reading a book. I don't retain much information from reading, and that is our assignment every week in the class, so the class has been difficult for me.

Using what you know about the way you prefer to learn, write about choices you can make that will help you learn this challenging subject more easily.
2. I am a doing and feeling learner. I like to know how, how it will help me and how I will be effected by it. I can research the topics I my history class to try and get my questions answered. I can find out how and why things happened and maybe it will help me become more interesting in the subject.

Journal Entry 27:
Make a least of at least 10 probing questions you could ask your two friends to help you find the "truth" and make a wise choice about whether or not to take Dr. Skinner's class.
1. What teaching method do they use?
2. What type of assignments?
3. Is the professor friendly?
4. What kind of personality does he have?
5. Is he easy to talk to?
6. Does he get angry a lot?
7. Is he easy to communicate with?
8. How involved is he with his students?
9. What type of learner would do best in his class?
10. What are his good an

Write a logical argument that explains which character you think is most responsible for the group's grade of D in the case study "Professor Roger's Trial."
2. Donald is most responsible for the groups grade being a "D." I know this because he put no effort into the work or the project. He didn't attend any of the groups meetings and didn't prepare for the trial. I read the short story on the case study and saw more than one situation where Donald did not help. The teacher gave the group a grade as a whole, and without the effort of Donald, the grade went down.

Journal Entry 28:
Write about a time when you kept a commitment that was difficult to keep.
 2.  One time when I kept a commitment was when I kept someones secret. My friend told me something and made me promise that I wouldn't tell anyone. My friends boyfriend found out that I knew and begged me to tell him. It was so hard not to because I knew she was going to tell him in the end. I came to my senses and realized that it wasn't my place to tell him, and if she wanted to know then she could tell him. It was annoying listening to him constantly beg for me to spill the information but I just couldn't do it, I promised. I kept my mouth closed and kept my friends trust as well.
